Vijay Sethupathi sacrifices his salary for the smooth release of ’96’

The early morning shows of Vijay Sethupathi’s ’96’ that were scheduled in many theaters in Chennai were cancelled. Theater owners had to take the step after the film’s producer couldn’t send KDM to the theaters. The financiers, who had provided the funds for the film had asked him to pay up a massive 4 crore just before the film hit screens.

When the film’s lead actor, Vijay Sethupathi, heard about it, he gave Rs 4 crore from his own pocket. In fact, Vijay Sethupathi had received only Rs 3 crore as his remuneration for the film. The film has been basking in good reviews.

The film also marks the directorial debut of Prem Kumar, who did the cinematography fo Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom which also starred Vijay Sethupathi. Govind Vasantha has scored the music for the film.
